Love Black Cats!
Black Cat Appreciation Day
Tomorrow is Black Cat Appreciation Day! I first heard about it on its Facebook page a few months ago, but it makes sense. I have heard that Black Cats are often the last to be adopted from shelters and the most often euthanized--why? Are they just too ‘ordinary’ looking--no cute markings or perky stripes? Do people still think they have sinister connections? If you visit the Black Cat Appreciation Facebook page, you will meet many wonderful black cats and their doting humans. Even before I heard about this special day, I noticed I was getting a lot of stories for True Cat Toons which starred black cats, in all their wonderfulness (and sometimes annoying-ness) and had also heard that they did not have good adoption stats. (Long ago a friend moved into an apartment which only allowed two cats and had to abandon one cat to the shelter--guess which one she chose, too... the little black one.)
I feel proud to present tales about as many black cats as I can on this website, and there are many more black kitties waiting in my notes and email folders, waiting to be drawn. In the meantime, enjoy the story of Othello and his bodyguard, and in the comics archives, you will meet black kitties Tommy, Midnight, Sara and the three little kittens. As always, if you have a kitty story to share, black cat or otherwise, please send it to me. Thanks!
And three purrs for black cats and the people who appreciate them!
