Yet Another Kitty Ditty
Yet Another Kitty Ditty
Roo’s poem
I haven’t had the time to draw the comics I have written about Roo, but it seems a lot easier these days to WRITE, so I came up this poem, which I recently performed at an open mike accompanied by the sequence of pictures above, which really capture Roo’s personality.
Brucie loves his Subaru
Built in 1982.
The problem with an older car
Is, sometimes you don’t get too far!
When finding parts starts getting hard
It’s time to find a wrecking yard.
So, he and Roberta drove over the pass
All the way to Kittitas
(That’s Ellensburg, plus a little more)
But Roberta finds car parts a big fat bore.
When Bruce went in to see what they got
Roberta sat out in the parking lot
‘Cause the day was bright and the sky was pretty
And wandering around was a black and white kitty.
“Kitty-Kitty” she called to the shy little guy
Who ran under a car. Then she saw in his eye
A curious, wondering, questioning glance
As he said, “YOU LIKE CATS! Can you give me a chance?”
He raced to her leg and he rubbied and purried
Then he purried some more, but Roberta was worried.
“Is this somebody’s kitty?” she said to Bruce.
“He’s wandering around out here on the loose!”
Bruce didn’t reply. He was already smitten
With the bright-eyed, bright-acting tuxedo kitten.
“Would you folks like a cat?” she asked one of the men.
The cat went inside, then got tossed out again.
The junkyard owners wouldn’t let him stay
And the closest house was a mile away.
So, what do you think the two of them did?
What DO you think the two of them did?
That’s right! In honor of Brucie’s Subaru
He and Roberta have a cat named Roo.
(We don’t think the kitty was ever missed
‘Cause Roberta made certain to check Craigslist!)
